A is for AMANDA
Who spent her summer Fridays through high school earning cash by cutting flowers for a local flower farmer. She’s grown a small cutting garden for herself ever since. Amanda is the planner of the pair, Queen of the Spreadsheet and in charge of all things scheduling, sorting, and seed starting.
M is for MARGARET
Who goes by “Greta” and gets her love of gardening and flowers naturally! Her mother and aunt have beautiful flower gardens. She seriously caught the flower bug in the last couple of years and there’s been no stopping her since. Greta is the get things done partner, willing to try anything, dig all the holes, and has a true eye for design and creativity in arrangements.
Amanda + Greta first met in 2018 when Greta moved into the house next door. They first got to know each other as neighbors dealing with mundane issues like garbage pick up and traffic going the wrong way down their shared one-way street. In 2020 when everyone was stuck at home both Amanda + Greta independently spent time working in their gardens and it quickly became shared point of connection and mutual interest. And in the fall of 2020, Greta announced that she would be setting up a roadside stand next to her house to see if anyone would by her garden grown blooms. Well, Amanda had kicked around the idea of taking her cut flower gardens to the next level but never worked up the courage to actually do it. Once Greta set her mind to it, Amanda couldn’t sit back and watch her neighbor do it without her! She was in. So, after a winter spent planning, dreaming, and scheming, A + M Flower Co. was created.
Why flowers? We love flowers. We love the feeling that we get when we are growing them and creating with them. We love the way it makes our customers feel when they have fresh flowers in their homes. And it’s not just us! Studies by Harvard and the University of Vermont among others have shown that fresh flowers in your home strengthen feelings of compassion, calm, and peacefulness, while diminishing feelings of anxiety, worry, and stress. And we believe we could all use more compassion and calmness in our lives.
